Harry Maguire is growing more likely to sign a new contract at Man United after his recent displays, according to the club's former scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during the club's most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that Ruben Amorim's recent show of faith in the defender is a positive sign.

As things stand, Maguire's contract at Old Trafford is set to expire at the end of the season and no talks are believed to have taken place over a new deal. Indeed, he had seemed almost certain to leave this time a year ago when he spent a lengthy period out of team.

However, his recent performances in the starting XI have proven he still has a role to play in the side and the boss has been impressed by his displays.

The centre-back was chosen to start alongside Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt in the 2-1 win against Man City, having also started the game against Arsenal earlier this month.

Brown has insisted that Amorim's decision to call upon Maguire in two of United's biggest and hardest games says a lot about his faith in his talent.

Ruben Amorim impressed by Harry Maguire performances ahead of contract decision

Maguire's contract situation is expected to drag on until closer to the end of the season before a final decision is made, while United also reserve the option to extend the deal by one year.

Brown, who has a wealth of experience dealing with players at the top level and has worked closely with the likes of Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson, insisted that the centre-backs recent performances have shown Amorim what he can bring to the side.

"I think he's getting closer to knowing what his best team is," he told Football Insider.

"That was always going to be his first priority at United - and once again we come back to Harry Maguire and his role in the side.

"When he starts, they are a better team, and I think Amorim has seen that.

"A lot of clubs have been interested in him, but I think they might've missed out now.

"There's been a lot of talk about his future, but every game he plays he's proving to Amorim what he can do.

"I said before it will be the manager who makes the decision about his future, and from what I'm told, he's been impressed with what he's seen.

"If he keeps playing like he has done, and keeps getting picked for the big games, I think he'll be edging closer to signing a new deal to keep him at United."
