Paul Robinson is baffled by the possibility of Man United signing Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one "cannot see how" a deal works for any of the parties involved.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract at Anfield.

According to talkSPORT‘s Alex Crook (10 June), Man United are plotting a surprise bid for the 28-year-old to bolster their midfield.

The Reds are said to be willing to accept a knockdown fee of just £10million for the centre-midfielder.

When asked if the ex-Arsenal star would be a welcome addition at Old Trafford, Robinson told Football Insider: "I can't see it.

"I just cannot see how that deal could work. Why would Man United pay £10million for Oxlade-Chamberlain?

"It would not go down well if United pick up Liverpool's fringe players. That is not where they want to be and not what they need to be doing if they want to start challenging again.

"I'm struggling to put words to it. I cannot see how that works for anybody."

Oxlade-Chamberlain has struggled with injury problems since moving to Liverpool in August 2017.

He made 29 appearances across all competitions in the 2021-22 campaign, contributing three goals and three assists.
