Man United next manager: Andoni Iraola’s odds tumble after confirmed exit news

Andoni Iraola has been linked with every Premier League vacancy since his decision to leave Bournemouth, with Manchester United the latest.

The 43-year-old announced last week that he would be leaving the Cherries at the end of his contract this summer, with former RB Leipzig boss Marco Rose already confirmed as his replacement.

Michael Carrick remains the overwhelming favourite to be appointed permanently by Man United, and it would be considered a shock if he were to be passed up this summer.

The 44-year-old stepped in as an interim manager to replace Ruben Amorim in the summer and has guided his team to eight wins from 12 games, with Champions League qualification almost guaranteed.

But there may still be some persisting doubts over whether Carrick’s experience is enough to be Man United’s next manager, with it crucial that decision-makers get the choice right.

Betting odds fall as Andoni Iraola enters race

Football Insider exclusively revealed on Monday that Iraola would be interested in the Newcastle United job amid the pressure surrounding Eddie Howe.

On the back of the job he has done at Bournemouth, it would be difficult for any team to turn down the 43-year-old.

For a third consecutive season in charge of the Cherries, Iraola looks bound to enter new territory in the Premier League.

In his first year in charge, his team set their all-time top-flight points record. In his second, they beat it and matched their highest-ever league position.

This season, in Iraola’s final campaign, just three wins from Bournemouth’s final five games would see them beat the points record again and likely mark a new highest finish, maybe even earning European football in the process.

It would not be a surprise based on the form they are in, either, with the Cherries unbeaten in 14 games across all competitions and having beaten Arsenal and Newcastle in their last two.

One major bookmaker has slashed Iraola’s odds of taking the Man United job this summer to just 6/1, while Carrick remains the favourite (5/6).

What Iraola has said about his next job

There are several other Premier League clubs potentially searching for a new manager next season, including Liverpool and Chelsea, if they are to sack Arne Slot and Liam Rosenior.

Even a move to Manchester City cannot be totally ruled out, with Pep Guardiola’s future still unclear.

There have also been strong links to Crystal Palace and Athletic Bilbao, where Iraola spent 12 years of his professional playing career.

“I have no clue,” the 43-year-old told BBC Radio Solent when asked about his future. “I don’t know if I’m going to coach next season. I have no rush to know it. The decision has not been affected by any other club.”
