Kieran Maguire shares £76m Man United reveal as new deal struck this week

Man United earn over £76million per season in matchday income – and so it is vital that Old Trafford stays open to the public.

So says finance boffin Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Red Devils’ new partnership with Ecolab.

United announced the deal with the global leader in infection prevention via their official website on 11 August.

Ecolab will provide “science-based solutions” at Old Trafford and the Carrington training ground.

United hosted their first home game in front of a packed-out crowd for 18 months in the 5-1 win over Leeds United on Saturday.

And Maguire hailed the club’s new deal with Ecolab as a Covid-free Old Trafford is essential to one of United’s biggest revenue streams.

“It is a very smart move,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“After all, Man United make somewhere between £4m or £5m per match for any home game. That’s upwards of £76m-a-season.

“If for any reason they were unable to host a game due to infection issues, it would be a huge hit to them. ‘

“This benefits in two ways. First of all, they get additional revenue from the partnership arrangement. Secondly, they get greater insurance against the risk of infection.

“It might also help some of their fans who are in vulnerable categories and are cautious about returning to Old Trafford.

“So it can help reduce empty seats, not that there are that many at Old Trafford anyway.
