Man United tipped to break the bank and sanction £100m spree after news - pundit

Danny Mills has tipped Man United to stretch their transfer budget this summer and spend over £100million on players.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Man City and England defender suggested needed to bolster their midfield and sign a new right-back.

A Man United source told Football Insider last month (23 April) that Erik ten Hag will only have £50million to rebuild the squad with and must sell players to raise funds.

He will have the final say on the club’s incomings and outgoings as he rebuilds United’s underperforming squad.

“£50million is not really enough,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“But if they say it’s £100million then it’s £150million. So if you say £50million then it’s £100million. Then you can sell a few players, get them off the wage bill and it grows.

“It’s like Newcastle when they said they would spend £60million in January and ended up spending £90million.

“If the right players are available it will be nearer £100million.

“You’ve got two good goalkeepers, a potentially good left-back in Luke Shaw, Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane, if coached properly, should be a good centre-back partnership. There’s an issue at right-back.

“Even in midfield, you’ve got some decent players even if the likes of Paul Pogba go. Then up front, there are some good young players.

“So suddenly £100million is ok. It’s actually about making those players you’ve got better, giving them confidence and belief in a plan so they can perform at their best.

“If Maguire and Varane perform at their best, happy days. If the likes of Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho perform at their best, happy days.

“This is potential we’ve seen, it’s not made up. We’ve seen them put in top-class performances so we know it’s there. It’s up to Ten Hag to get the best out of them.”

In other news, Man United have been tipped to accept a ‘£20million’ Aaron Wan-Bissaka bid after an update.
