Kieran Maguire: Man United set to rake it in after £91m Ronaldo reveal
Man United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is the world’s highest-paid footballer – and that is “testament to his commercial pulling power”.
So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the legendary 36-year-old Portuguese forward.
In Forbes‘ annual list of the game’s best-paid players, published on 21 September, Ronaldo has wrestled top spot away from Lionel Messi.
He is reportedly set to earn £91.5million in the 2021-22 campaign, with £51.2m of that coming from his United salary.
The remaining £40.3m will come from his commercial partnerships with various brands, such as Nike and Herbalife.
Maguire predicts that United will be able to trade off Ronaldo’s global popularity to drive their own commercial profits too.

“It’s testament to his commercial pulling power,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“If you are Man United’s commercial department, you have a roster of players you can offer up. He is top of the bill and he will deliver for sponsors.
“They will pay more for him than they will do for other players, and that could be up to seven figures more.
“He has got nearly 350m Instagram followers, which is amazing and far more than Manchester United.
“That tells you all you need to know about his appeal and his reach across the world.”
Ronaldo signed from Juventus in the summer, 12 years after his first spell at Old Trafford.
He has netted four goals in his opening four matches for United.
