Kieran Tripper has told his England teammates he expects to sign for Man United this summer, Football Insider understands.

The full-back, 30, is a top target of the 20-times Premier League champions as they look to strengthen their defensive options in the current window.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Trippier has let it be known to friends, including those in the England squad, that he is keen to return to the Premier League and is likely to end up at Old Trafford.

He has already begun house hunting as the former Man City academy product and Burnley star looks to return to the north-west.

Football Insider revealed on 9th June that Atletico Madrid had rejected an opening offer for Trippier of around £10million from United.

They are expected to return with an improved bid for the full-back amid reports the La Liga champions want more than £30m for him.

United are unlikely to pay that, given Trippier turns 31 in September and has entered the final two years of his contract.

Nevertheless, he enhanced his reputation with a fine display in the unfamiliar left-back position as England opened their Euros campaign with a 1-0 win over Croatia on Sunday.

Trippier was signed by Diego Simeone's side from Tottenham in the summer of 2019 for a fee of around £22m.

He subsequently hit out at at Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy over the manner of his exit, saying they failed to disclose their plans to sell him.

Trippier has proved to be a shrewd signing for Atletico and has 68 appearances for the club across two seasons.
