West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has confirmed that Pedro Obiang will miss Saturday’s clash with Tottenham at the London Stadium with an injury.
Obiang, 25, suffered a minor setback in last weekend’s 0-0 draw with West Brom at the Hawthorns, but it was enough to see him sit out of the Carabao Cup win over Bolton as well as the meeting with Spurs.
Luckily for the Irons fans, Bilic has made it clear that the Spanish midfielder is likely to return to action in time for when Swansea travel to East London next week.
“It’s only Pedro Obiang that got injured in the game against West Brom and he will not be in the squad for Saturday,” said the Croatian manager in his pre-match press conference on Thursday, as quoted by Football.London.
“It was one of those injuries where he finished the game, all well, no problem so it’s nothing major or big but he isn’t going to play on Saturday. Hopefully he will be ready for Swansea but that’s it.”
Obiang is a key player for West Ham and it’s no doubt a big blow to the Hammers to be without him for Saturday’s capital city derby clash with Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs.
The former Sampdoria ace has made five appearances across all competitions so far this term, scoring one goal in the process which came in the 2-0 win over Huddersfield a couple of weeks ago.
West Ham will shoot up the table if results go their way this weekend although a move into the top-half is just out of their reach at this stage.
Tottenham will no doubt be looking to get their title push back on track after some poor results in the opening weeks of the season.
In other West Ham news, Bilic has given his thoughts on the selection headache he has.
