Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic is a fan of Newcastle centre-back Grant Hanley, according to a report.
Local news outlet West London Sport have claimed on their website that the Cottagers boss is looking for a new centre-back with Aden Flint, Craig Cathcart and the Magpies 25-year-old all mentioned.
It is said that the Serbian boss likes the trio, but Fulham’s statistical analysis team are also reported to be unconvinced that they would be good signings.
Hanley himself only completed a move to St. James’ Park last summer, where he signed from struggling Blackburn for an undisclosed fee.
Newcastle had high hopes for him and even handing him a mega five-year deal, but both Ciaran Clark and Jamaal Lascelles kept him well out of the team and the Scotsman played just 16 times in all competitions in his debut campaign.
The Magpies have since added Frenchman Florian Lejeune to their back line this summer, leaving Hanley even further down the centre-back pecking order as he even struggled in Wednesday evening’s Carabao Cup defeat against Nottingham Forest.
Football Insider verdict:
Hanley’s playing days at Newcastle are coming to an end. However, like so many before him the Magpies have tied him to a big long-term contract and the Scotsman may now be happy to see out his deal while spending a number of years going out on loan to various clubs. It is hard to think what the north east giants were thinking when they gave him a five-year deal alongside also signing Clark and this Hanley deal may now prove more costly than first thought.
