Fulham manager Slavisa Jokanovic has heaped praise on Newcastle loanee Aleksandar Mitrovic and said that “many clubs” will be interested in him in the summer.

Asked whether Fulham would try and make his move permanent, Jokanovic said that he wasn’t responsible for signing players but that he was a “quality” player.

He did hint at a permanent deal but explained they were fighting for targets this season.

His quotes were reported by Chris Waugh, Newcastle reporter for the Chronicle, on his Twitter page on Friday morning.

Fulham are currently fifth in the Championship and looking for a play-off place as their best bet of going up to the Premier League.

Automatic promotion is looking unlikely as they’re eight points off the pace of Cardiff City in second.

The claim might bemuse some Newcastle fans after Newcastle found it hard to shift Mitrovic in the summer.

In the end it came down to a dramatic deadline-day move after his proposed deal with Anderlecht collapsed leaving him in limbo.

Fulham stepped in at the last minute and a loan deal was secured until the end of the season.

He’s settled in quickly and scored two goals in five games, and if he can continue to net then his stock might well rise in the summer.

Ironically, that might make it more expensive for Fulham to land him on a permanent deal, although that could also depend on whether the west London club get promoted or not.
