After Jeremy Doku, 'quite outstanding' Man City 27-yr-old must be next to sign new deal

Jeremy Doku is the latest star to confirm his future at Manchester City with a brand-new contract this summer.

It has been an extremely difficult few weeks leading up to the 2026-27 campaign, with Pep Guardiola bringing an end to his decade-long stay at the Etihad Stadium.

Matheus Nunes' contract set to expire in 2028

The majority of players in the squad currently have contract running until at least 2030, showing just how well-run Man City is as a club.

However, one player who has only recently become a star, playing completely out of position for the past two seasons, only has two years left on their deal.

That person would be 27-year-old Matheus Nunes, who has made the right-back position his own, despite initially being signed from Wolves as a midfielder.

After the big-money deal in 2023, it seems like the Citizens had made a huge error, but now he's living up to the "quite outstanding" label given to him by Martin Keown [Manchester City News].

Very few have been able to replicate his performances in the position, which is exactly why the club need to get him tied down with new terms.

Why does Nunes deserve a new deal?

In back-to-back campaigns, Nunes has notched four goals and 10 assists in 2024-25 and one goal and eight assists in 2025-26.

The 27-year-old started 32 of Man City's 38 Premier League matches last term, with another five starts in the Champions League.

In the Premier League last term, he ranked in the top 93 percentile for assists for players in his position, as well as the 83rd percentile for chances created [FotMob].

Nunes made 5.31 recoveries and 6.13 defensive contributions per 90, while ranking in the 75th and 76th percentiles for tackles and interceptions.
