Chelsea to 'make profit' on Enzo Fernandez deal as he closes in on Man City move

Chelsea are ready to cash in on Enzo Fernandez, and talks have already been opened with Manchester City.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that the Blues are "keen" to move the 25-year-old on this summer.

Speaking in his press conference on Friday, 14 August, Enzo Maresca revealed that the Citizens are unlikely to make a move before Chelsea's 5pm deadline.

However, Borson has not ruled out Man City making a move for the Argentina international, especially due to his links to his previous manager.

In 2025-26, Fernandez notched 16 goals and 10 assists in 61 games before starring for Argentina at the 2026 World Cup, leading them to the final in USA.

It wasn't to be for the 25-year-old, however, having been sent off in the final defeat to Spain. He remains of interest to the 10-time Premier League champions, though.

Chelsea 'keen to trade' Enzo Fernandez this summer

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson remains confident that a deal will be completed, with the West London outfit wanting to sell.

"They'll make a profit just by virtue of the fact that he's been amortised down. I think they need to bring in some money, Chelsea," he said.

"Nothing's going to happen if the deal isn't completed tonight. I think from what we know, there is contact between the clubs and the players and intermediaries.

"They know City want the player. I think the player wants to come to City; he wants to leave Chelsea. And I think Chelsea want to sell.

"From a contractual position, they're quite keen to trade him on. Chelsea, as we know, have a unique way of doing things, shall we say."

Who could be sacrificed at Man City?

All signs point towards a deal being done in the coming days, or so many would believe, but £120million would be a lot of money.

Maresca has already added Elliot Anderson and Geronimo Rulli to his squad, with Ayyoub Bouaddi potentially next before the window closes.

Were Fernandez to sign across the dotted line, that would be upwards of £300m spent on three midfielders, and very few outgoings so far.

Rodri is expected to leave for Barcelona, and if the correct fee can be agreed upon, that should help facilitate a move for the Chelsea star.

Tijjani Reijnders and Savinho are also expected to leave, and that would seriously boost the transfer pot this summer.
