Elliot Anderson adds another £10m to Nottingham Forest price tag as stats emerge from World Cup debut - view
Elliot Anderson's superb World Cup debut would have been welcomed by Nottingham Forest as they continue to resist Manchester City's interest in him.
The 23-year-old featured throughout as England beat Croatia 4-2 in their World Cup opener on Wednesday, with Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford getting on the score sheet.
The midfielder even marked the occasion with an assist, playing the ball through to Bellingham for his nation's third.
Nottingham Forest have already turned down an offer worth around £121million from Man City for Anderson this summer, with Evangelos Marinakis determined to hold out for a Premier League record fee.
The former Newcastle United talent enjoyed a brilliant season at the City Ground, and has emerged among Thomas Tuchel's main men for England.
The Citizens are also reportedly looking at Sandro Tonali, as they look to complete a refresh of a midfield that has lost Bernardo Silva.
Elliot Anderson impresses on World Cup debut
Anderson actually represented Scotland at the youth level, switching to England once at the Under-21 stage.
Just a year ago, the 23-year-old was largely flying under the radar for Nottingham Forest, having completed a £35m move from Newcastle in the prior summer.
His explosion onto the grand stage is a testament to the consistency and quality behind Anderson's performances in the year since.
The Englishman was superb again on Wednesday, and picked up an assist when Bellingham ran onto his through ball before driving towards goal and finishing past Dominik Livakovic.
Anderson completed a cross and two long balls on the night, but it was his defensive work, as usual, that caught the eye.
The Nottingham Forest star made two tackles, two clearances, four interceptions and a remarkable eight recoveries.
He also won six duels and two free-kicks, on a night that Marinakis may well point to as he increases his resilience against Man City's interest.
Jude Bellingham sends message to Anderson
Anderson is expected to ultimately leave Nottingham Forest this summer, but decision-makers at the City Ground will go down swinging.
The midfielder's World Cup display on Wednesday was yet another reason why, and there is undoubtedly more to come.
Anderson posted on Instagram following the game and wrote: "Start as we mean to go on. Let's go!"
Bellingham replied to the post and wrote: "Some pass brother".
