Manchester City are planning to accelerate their move to sign Enzo Fernandez within days, sources have told Football Insider.

The 25-year-old has emerged as a top target for Enzo Maresca's side in the closing stages of the transfer window, and they are hopeful of getting a deal over the line quickly.

Negotiations between the two clubs are now expected to ramp up, there is growing optimism at the Etihad that a deal can be agreed which works for all parties.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, I revealed that Chelsea are willing to let Fernandez leave as long as their asking price is met.

The Blues previously placed a deadline on talks with Man City in an attempt to force through a £120million move, but the situation has not changed after that deadline expired.

Instead, talks between all parties are set to accelerate before the 1 September deadline, with the move now widely expected to go through.

Will Man City make a move to sign Enzo Fernandez?

Football Insider revealed on 11 August that Man City were holding initial talks to explore the possibility of signing Fernandez, who ranks high on their list of targets.

Maresca is particularly keen to reuinite with his former star player, following their time together at Stamford Bridge, and has been the driving force behind their pursuit.

It now looks increasingly likely that he will get his man, with Man City pushing to agree terms while Chelsea remain open to letting him go at the right price.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "I would expect things to ramp up in Man City's pursuit of Enzo Fernandez in the next few days.

"Look, we know that City are interested in Fernandez and we know Chelsea haven't ruled out selling him for the right price.

"That's why they had that price tag of £120 million and the deadline of last Friday, which was a bit crazy really because I don't think City were willing to do that.

"I'm sure negotiations will be ongoing between City and Chelsea to see if they can thrash out a deal for Fernandez and I would fully expect him to make the move to City if a deal can be agreed."

How do Chelsea feel about selling Fernandez?

Amid the growing expectation that Fernandez will make the move to Man City this summer, Chelsea remain adamant that any deal must be on their terms.

The Blues are reluctant to lose one of their star players this summer ahead of a fresh start under Xabi Alonso, but may be left in a tricky position as he is keen on the move.

As a result, Football Insider revealed back in June that Chelsea have placed a £120million asking price on Fernandez, and that price tag remains in place at this late stage.

After they failed to qualify for European football last time out, Chelsea have enjoyed a busy transfer window, but they may now be set to lose an important player.

That asking price is not expected to deter Man City from making a late move, and should they match it, they are expected to agree a late deal.
