Man City have 'get-out-of-jail' card as Enzo Maresca concerns addressed
Man City will continue to try and outscore teams rather than improve their defensive record under Enzo Maresca, sources have told Football Insider.
Maresca criticised his side's defensive display last week after they shipped three goals at home to Sunderland.
The Citizens scored five to beat the Black Cats, but the Italian boss admitted that those they conceded were "too easy" and he would "prefer to win 1-0."
Their chaotic display raised concerns around the depth of Maresca's backline options as Ruben Dias and Matheus Nunes each particularly struggled.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Maresca will not change his style despite their defensive issues, as he knows their forward line should outscore most teams this season.
Antoine Semenyo was in fine form against Sunderland, with top scorer Erling Haaland only providing one goal contribution despite the team bagging five goals.

City had kept four consecutive clean sheets across all competitions before welcoming Sunderland to the Etihad Stadium.
They have been touted to enter the transfer market for a new defender in January, but the boss is currently content to keep things the same as the attacking quartet of Haaland, Semenyo, Rayan Cherki and Iliman Ndiaye promises great things.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "I'm sure it's a concern to be conceding three goals at home. That’s never good, but they've got so much attacking talent going forward that it can get them out of jail a lot.
"It's not been a bad start for Man City, they've won all five games and are top of the table, so I don't think there'll be any panic or anything like that at the Etihad right now."
Haaland's stance on leaving Man City for Barcelona revealed
Haaland's future has been widely discussed since Pep Guardiola's exit, with the possibility of a departure raised if he failed to see eye to eye with Maresca.
Barcelona are his biggest suitors as it stands amid their ongoing search for a long-term successor to Robert Lewandowski.
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Haaland remains keen to stay at City for at least until his release clause is activated in 2029.
