Man City make new Jack Grealish decision after Enzo Maresca 'meeting'

Manchester City are still prepared to sell Jack Grealish this summer despite a meeting with new manager Enzo Maresca over his future.

It had been suggested that the 30-year-old could stay at the Etihad next season, with the change in manager opening the door to a long-term future as part of the squad.

However, amid looming interest from Everton who are keen to keep him at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, the England international is still considered more likely to move on.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Grealish is now "surplus to requirements" at Man City given the major additions to their squad.

Having completed the signigs of the likes of Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo while Grealish has been away on loan, he has been pushed down the pecking order.

While Maresca is reportedly open to the idea of the midfielder staying if they cannot reach an agreement over a move, all parties remain keen on him securing an exit.

How do Man City feel about selling Jack Grealish?

Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider in February that Man City are open to discussing Grealish's future, with a potential cut-price deal on the cards.

After he fell out of favour under Pep Guardiola's management, the midfielder was allowed to join Everton on loan, where he turened in a number of impressive displays.

That has done little to impact his place in City's squad, however, with other stars now ahead of him in the pecking order and another exit looming.

"There will be changes at Man City this summer, with the new manager coming in," Brown told Football Insider.

"I'm sure he will be keen to assess his squad, figure out which players are going to be part of his plans and which players might not be, and that includes somebody like Grealish.

"He's been away on loan, now he's coming back, so he's had a meeting with the manager about his role and how everybody feels about his future.

"But the problem he's got at Man City now is that there are other players in his position who are probably better than him, in all honesty.

"Rayan Cherki has come in, Antoine Semenyo has come in, both of those players are going to push Grealish down the pecking order and away from the starting XI.

"I think the decision will be made that he is now surplus to requirements at City due to his place in the squad, and they'll want to get his wages off the books.

"Whether it's a move back to Everton or to another club, it's something they and he will be exploring. If they can't do a deal, maybe he could stay, but that's unlikely to happen."

What is next for Grealish as Man City exit still likely?

With Man City expected to decide that Grealish is no longer part of their long-term plans, questions have been asked about his future away from the Etihad.

Everton remain keen to do a deal for the wide midfielder after what was an impressive spell on loan, before a poorly-timed injury in January cut his season short.

Brown told Football Insider on 6 July that the Toffees are set to hold fresh talks with Man City about the possibility of another loan move, rather than a permanent transfer.

There was a £50million option to buy included in his original loan deal, but with Everton never planning to meet that price, they are now keen to extend his temporary stay.

He is now back training on the grass as he continues his recovery, and shared photos from Finch Farm despite his Everton contract ending last month, hinting at his future.
