Man City to appoint Enzo Maresca after 'agreeing' £17.2m Chelsea deal - report
Enzo Maresca looks set to take charge of Manchester City after terminating his contract with Chelsea.
The Blues have been in a dispute with the Italian manager over his contract after they claimed the Citizens had illegally approached him before his sacking.
While the former Leicester City boss has been heavily linked with succeeding Pep Guardiola at the Sky Blues, complications have arisen due to his situation at the London club.
Maresca is now preparing to travel to Manchester to be officially unveiled at the Etihad Stadium after working things out with the Stamford Bridge hierarchy.
The Italian manager's time at Chelsea ended abruptly despite making progress in SW6 and it will be interesting to see how he performs at Man City.
With expectations at the Citizens sky-high after Guardiola's successful period, during which he won 20 trophies in 10 years, the 46-year-old head coach has some big shoes to fill.
Manchester City agree Chelsea compensation for Enzo Maresca
Maresca is expected to sign a three-year contract at Man City ahead of next season.
The Italian manager is returning to the Etihad Stadium after spending a year as Guardiola's assistant in the 2022-23 campaign, during which the club won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio on 22 June, the Citizens have agreed to pay Chelsea around £17.2million to appoint Maresca as their next head coach.
At Stamford Bridge, the ex-Parma boss won the Conference League and the Club World Cup, but only time will tell whether the Sky Blues have made the right decision.
Enzo Maresca plans set at Man City
Football Insider transfer correspondent Pete O'Rourke shared on 22 June that Man City wanted Maresca to join before the start of pre-season.
Most players are expected to return to training in the middle of July as the 2026 World Cup takes centre stage, giving the Citizens plenty of time to officially confirm the former Leicester boss' arrival.
Given the Sky Blues' sporting structure, it would be surprising to see any major changes to their transfer plans unless Maresca decides to change his mind about certain players in the coming weeks.
