Nottingham Forest could sign Tijjani Reijnders for 'record' fee - Stefan Borson drops 'massive' verdict

Nottingham Forest are able to finance a deal for Tijjani Reijnders, but the Manchester City midfielder's wages are a different story.

That is according to former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that there must be truth behind transfer rumours at the City Ground.

Reijnders, 28, has certainly struggled during his first season in England, having signed for the Citizens for £46.3million last summer.

He started just 19 Premier League games, but with seven goals and seven assists across all competitions, Forest and Newcastle United remain interested.

With Elliot Anderson signed, and Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi likely next, Reijnders' future at the Etihad Stadium continues to look increasingly bleak.

The City Ground could present as a chance for the former AC Milan star to reignite his career, but getting a deal across the line won't be as simple as some may expect.

Tijjani Reijnders might be 'out of Nottingham Forest's range'

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson named Forest as a potential destination, but the Reds will have a huge financial hurdle to overcome.

"The story about the Tijjani Reijnders deal... That would be a massive deal; I think it would be their record," he said.

"They're talking about it being in excess of £60m, which I find very, very hard to believe because it's also huge wages.

"It does feel like it's true, in terms of him leaving. He must be going somewhere, and there aren't many teams around Europe that can afford him.

"Forest would certainly be one of them. They can afford to pay the transfer fee, but I don't know about the whole package.

"The wages plus the transfer fee do seem a bit, even out of Forest's range but I don't know. We'll to see."

What is Enzo Maresca's plan for Reijnders?

Even the player would admit that it's not been the most ideal first season in England, but he appears ready to fight for his position at the Etihad.

Reijnders has played a big role during pre-season, starting against Inter Milan before netting in the 3-1 win over K-League All Stars.

Football Insider revealed last month that Maresca would allow the 28-year-old the chance to prove himself before the 2026-27 campaign kicked off.

So far, he may well have impressed the former Chelsea manager, but if Forest come knocking with a major fee, it will be difficult to turn down.
