Stefan Borson shares 'significant' verdict on political interference in Man City appeal
Premier League clubs should not worry about political intervention in Manchester City's case despite Andy Burnham's recent comments.
That is according to former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that stories about the 114 charges must be read with a "heavy pinch of salt".
Prime Minister Andy Burnham admitted he has would be "very concerned" if the Citizens' owners decided to sell after the club were found guilty.
Burnham praised the owners for their investment, not only on the pitch but also in the wider community, but he was forced to retract these comments shortly after.
It is now being reported that clubs across the Premier League are worried about political intervention, potentially freeing Man City of their charges.
The fresh backlash has added yet another layer of controversy to the ongoing situation, with City submitting an appeal against the Premier League's investigation.
Man City news must be taken with 'heavy pinch of salt'
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson has batted away the idea that Man City could be saved by political intervention, rating the chances as "low".
"We would never have got this far if political influence was a significant issue here. Clearly, it would have averted this situation many years ago," he said.
"What you've got is, inevitably, a lot of journalists going around speaking to their contacts. Their contacts will obviously span all of the clubs, both Premier League and below at various levels.
"The entire universe of people that might be giving these little quotes is probably hundreds of people who, some of them won't even be in the game anymore.
"There will be people that used to work there. And of course, everyone's got their own view on this, and so when you read these articles, you have to take it all with a heavy pinch of salt.
"The reality is the that the threat of governments getting involved in the process is low."
Man City preparing for 'odd' Pep return
After the trip to Anfield on Sunday, 11 October, Man City supporters will be treated to Pep Guardiola's emotional return to the Etihad Stadium.
It is believed that he will be in attendance for the Champions League fixture against PSG on Wednesday, 14 October.
While many are excited to see the generational manager at the Etihad, Borson is a little more confused by the timing of it, labelling it "odd".
The ex-Man City advisor is concerned that his presence will only serve as a distraction during the game, but understood that it was a good chance for PR.
