Toby Alderweireld had one question about Jeremy Doku this season, and that still needs to be answered fully by the Man City forward.

Doku has been out of action for quite some time this season already, missing four of the six league matches through injury.

The Belgian winger has not started a match this season, which is something that will surely now change.

His appearance off the bench against Liverpool was simply game-changing, with his statistics making history for the first time in a decade.

Few players can make such an immediate difference when running at tired defenders, and Doku demonstrated exactly why he remains such an exciting talent.

With just one aspect of his game still required to take him to the next level.

What did Toby Alderweireld say about Jeremy Doku?

Alderweireld knows Doku quite well from their time in the Belgian national team.

The pair have shared the pitch on 10 occasions, winning 50 per cent of those matches, as per Transfermarkt.

Following Man City's 3-0 win against Liverpool, the winger's former international teammate has been talking about his performance.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Alderweireld praised Doku for his performance, insisting he is a "horrible" winger to defend against, and pinpointing his "unbelievable" acceleration.

However, the former Belgian international also asked a question of the Man City forward about what next steps he needs to take.

He said: "Can he give the assists? Can he get that goal that he needs to deliver? Today [Sunday], yeah."

While Doku performed exceptionally off the bench, scoring just one goal in one game will not answer that question.

And it is one that will only be answered when the end of the season comes around, with it still lingering.

Until then, Doku needs to work his way back into the Man City starting XI, with his performance against Liverpool the right step in doing so.

In his absence, Antoine Semenyo and Iliman Ndiaye have cemented their places as the starting wide men.

How Doku made 10-year Premier League history vs Liverpool

Doku's substitute appearance also saw him produce a feat not seen since 2016.

According to Opta, Doku is the first since Eden Hazard 10 years ago to score a goal, complete five dribbles and win three fouls after coming off the bench.

It is certainly not bad company to be in.

Now, Man City fans will be hoping he pushes on and can begin to provide a positive answer to Alderweireld's question.

With last season's Premier League totals of five goals and five assists not exactly doing so.
