Julian Alvarez to Man City odds crash after ‘update’

Manchester City have suddenly emerged as the second favourites to complete a sensational late deal for Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.

Reports emerged on Friday that City have entered the race to re-sign the 26-year-old striker.

The Argentina international has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona, but with the capital club refusing to sell their star man to their Spanish rivals, the Premier League appears to be his only realistic destination.

Now, one UK bookmaker has suddenly slashed the odds of Man City completing a deal down to 2/1, making them the second favourites.

Arsenal remain the front runners to complete a deal at 4/6 odds as they look to complete a late swoop for Alvarez.

However, both City and the Gunners are running out of time to complete the late signing.

How good is Julian Alvarez?

While Alvarez did not exactly light up La Liga last season, as he only netted eight times in 29 matches, most of his feats came in the Champions League.

In the 2025-26 campaign, the striker netted 10 times in Europe’s most prestigious competition, and all picked up four assists.

According to Fotmob on 29 August, he averaged 0.73 goals, a 0.60 xG, 3.34 shots, 1.60 shots on target, 0.29 assists, a 0.29 xA, 2.40 chances created and 0.36 big chances created per 90 minutes in the Champions League.

As a result, with both Arsenal and City looking to win the competition this season, Alvarez could be a key difference-maker.

Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if Marca’s report about Man City’s interest develops into anything in the remaining days of the transfer window.
