Man City odds to sign Adam Wharton slashed after 'approach'
Manchester City have emerged as the favourites to seal a sensational deal for Adam Wharton before the summer transfer window closes.
Reports emerged on Thursday that the Manchester club have enquired about the 22-year-old midfielder this summer.
However, Crystal Palace have stated that he is not for sale and they have no intention of letting him go before the window closes.
Nevertheless, this news has seen City jump to become the favourites to sign the England international, with the odds of a move being slashed down to 7/2.
The former were previously the favourites to complete the transfer, but their odds have now increased to 8/1.
Adam Wharton could be perfect Rodri successor
If The Athletic’s report is true, and Man City follow this interest up with a bid, the club could have their hands on Rodri’s perfect successor.
The former Ballon d’Or winner left the Manchester club this week to move to Barcelona, with Enzo Maresca’s side now scrambling to find a replacement.
However, the signing of Wharton could prove to be the perfect solution, with the youngster emerging as one of the best upcoming players in the Premier League.
The 22-year-old has overseen a golden era at Palace in recent years, which has seen the club win three major trophies.
With Wharton likely to improve further over the coming years, he could easily fill the whole left by the Spain international and become one of the club’s best signings in years.
What were Wharton’s stats last season?
According to Fotmob on 20 August, Wharton had some very solid stats in the Premier League last season.
Overall, he averaged 0.18 assists, a 0.26 xA, 1.55 chances created, 0.49 big chances created, 2.46 tackles, 0.95 interceptions, 5.80 recoveries and 0.60 times possession was won in the final third per 90 minutes.
Therefore, there is no question that if City were to complete the signing this summer, he would quickly have a massive impact on the squad.
However, it remains to be seen if the club are able to get a deal over the line, with less than two weeks now remaining in the transfer window.
