Stefan Borson: This is how much Man City will pay to sign Tino Livramento

Manchester City would have to pay at least £60million to sign Tino Livramento from Newcastle United in the summer transfer window. 

That is according to former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider Newcastle are unlikely to entertain offers below that fee. 

Livramento has been linked with Pep Guardiola’s side for the best part of the past year due to their lack of depth at right-back. 

City are willing to break the world record for a full-back to sign the 23-year-old this summer, surpassing the £60m PSG paid Inter Milan for Achraf Hakimi in 2021. 

Man City have agreed several transfers over the past year as part of their squad revamp at the Etihad Stadium.

It has been speculated Man City could have to pay £70m to sign Livramento this summer. 

The England international has been a consistent performer for Newcastle since joining from Southampton in the summer of 2023 for an initial £32m, with the deal potentially rising to £40m in add-ons. 

Livramento is under contract at St James’ Park in June 2028 as speculation continues around his future. 

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson discussed whether Man City would be willing to pay a record fee to sign Livramento. 

“Well, he's not going to be less than £60m because I think Newcastle wouldn't sell at less than £60m given what they paid for him and given how he's performed,” said Borson.

“I think if the deal is going to happen, then it is going to be that sort of fee. 

“I can't see City having that big of a spend this summer unless they've got ideas as to who they sell.”

Borson suggested key first-team players are likely to leave Man City when their contracts expire this summer, potentially freeing up some wages. 

“The squad is enormous at the moment and a number of the players are going to be out of contract at the end of the season, so players like Stones and Bernardo, these sorts of players will naturally leave probably,” said Borson. 

“Even so, there's a limit to how much you can spend on wages and the size of the squad. 

“At the moment, I think it's unlikely they'll sign both Livramento and Anderson. 

“But I do agree if they are to sign Livramento, it will be that sort of fee.” 

Livramento has missed several games through injury for Eddie Howe’s side this season, but he’s started in 16 of his 20 appearances.
