Why Antoine Semenyo will explode under Enzo Maresca at Man City

Antoine Semenyo has been an incredible addition to the Manchester City squad following his £64million move from Bournemouth.

Despite only signing across the dotted line in January, the winger quickly became a key figure for Pep Guardiola, notching 11 goals and three assists.

With 14 goal contributions in 27 appearances, supporters are excited to see a full season from him, and it could get even better than that.

Semenyo is already starring during pre-season, grabbing an assist for Divin Mubama's opener against Inter Milan on Saturday, 1 August.

He was easily one of the brightest sparks on the pitch, and while he was already a star last term, his numbers could be about to skyrocket.

And that's all thanks to Enzo Maresca, who has arrived at the Etihad Stadium with fresh ideas, new tactics, and the ability to give players freedom.

On his turn, Semenyo spoke about the excitement for the season ahead, and why Maresca's football could take him to another level at the Etihad.

He said: "When he was there [Chelsea], his wide men were always high and wide and quite free.

"So that was one of the things that excited me the most when he got appointed and it's exciting for me as a winger; I get to have 1v1 situations most of the game and I'm looking forward to it.”

The Ghana international is already proving that with his display against Inter Milan, and a couple more games until the Community Shield clash with Arsenal.

Despite playing just 68 minutes, Semenyo was one of the most dangerous players on the pitch, even if it was only a pre-season game.

In that time, he created three chances, had a shot saved, completed 80 per cent of his dribbles, the most of anyone on the pitch, and missed one big chance [FotMob].

He was the app's Player of the Match, and with one tackle, four recoveries and 71 per cent of ground duels won, the defensive side to his game hasn't disappeared either.

Semenyo has quickly turned out to be one of Man City's most shrewd signings in recent seasons, and fans are still yet to see the very best of him.
