Manchester United next manager: Unai Emery odds tumble with Aston Villa exit increasingly likely

Manchester United are on the hunt for their manager for the 2026-27 campaign after the sacking of Ruben Amorim.

Currently, Michael Carrick is in charge of the first-team, but there is no guarantee that he will take the post full-time upon the conclusion of the current season.

As a result, multiple names have been linked to the post, including current Aston Villa boss Unai Emery.

Now, a move to Old Trafford in the summer is viewed as increasingly likely at 12/1, with Oddschecker on 18 April confirming that these odds have been slashed.

It would be a stunning Man United move, with Emery proving to be one of the best managers in the Premier League at Villa Park.

Unai Emery has overseen some stunning feats at Aston Villa

Since Emery took over Villa in 2022, he has turned the club into one of the Premier League’s powerhouses.

Coming in when the club were fighting relegation, he somehow delivered European football in his first campaign.

Since then, Villa have been fighting for Champions League qualification regularly, and look certain to qualify for the competition for the second time in three years this season.

On top of this, the Birmingham outfit are the favourites to lift the Europa League this campaign, after reaching the semi-finals with ease on Thursday.

This is despite Villa have financial restrictions for several windows, meaning they have been unable to sign top stars without sales.

Therefore, if Man United were to get their hands on Emery, there is every chance that he would be a success at Old Trafford.

Would Emery leave Aston Villa in the summer?

Football Insider exclusively revealed in March that Emery was increasingly likely to leave Aston Villa in the summer.

The 54-year-old has become unsettled at Villa Park due to the financial restrictions at the club.

As a result, it could be a crucial few weeks for the club as Emery decides whether to stay at Villa for another season.

Currently, he is contracted to stay at the Birmingham outfit until 2029 after signing a contract extension in 2024.

However, if he does elect to leave, it presents Man United with an opportunity to swoop in for Emery in time for the 2026-27 campaign.
