Bournemouth 'confident' Alex Scott will stay as offer on table in Man United twist
Bournemouth are growing increasingly confident of keeping Alex Scott this summer despite interest from Manchester United.
The 22-year-old has attracted attention from high-profile clubs with his performances for the Cherries this season, but they may struggle to prise him away.
Marco Rose's side have tabled a new contract offer to the midfielder in an attempt to tie him down, and they believe he will commit to at least one more year.
Meanwhile, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that United could cool their interest in Scott and he is now more likely to stay at Bournemouth.
Scott is believed to be open to all options as things stand, but staying to continue his development at the Vitality Stadium is now seen as the most likely outcome.
Any new contract is expected to include a release clause, and Man United will keep a close eye on him next season in case they eventually decide to make a move.
That level of interest was expected to make it difficult for Bournemouth to keep him, but no clubs are prepared to follow up with a formal offer as things stand.
With Bournemouth's offer now on the table, there is a growing likelihood that Scott will put pen to paper and remain with the Cherries for at least one more year.
"Alex Scott is a top player and he's had an excellent season," Brown told Football Insider.
"I don't expect Man United to make a move for him right now, and a lot of the other interested clubs don't seem to be coming forward with any major offers
"His best bet will be to stay at Bournemouth for another year, continue to play every week in the Premier League and now in the Europa League, and keep on impressing.
"The interest in him isn't going anywhere, especially if he keeps playing the way he has recently, so it's not like this is going to be his one chance to make a big move.
"Bournemouth will be confident they can keep hold of him for at least another year, then they can sell for a high price next summer if it comes to that.
"But I would be surprised to see him move on this summer, all signs point to him staying at Bournemouth, regardless of the clubs who have been keeping an eye on him."
What is Man United's updated stance on Scott?
Scott is now growing more and more likely to remain at Bournemouth this summer, and that is largely down to United's own transfer plans and their stance on a move.
Brown told Football Insider on 9 June that Scott is firmly on Man United's radar, but they are not currently planning to step up that interest with a formal offer.
While the midfielder is highly regarded at Old Trafford, he does not fit the profile of player Michael Carrick is targeting as he looks to bolster his midfield options.
Instead, United are looking to follow up on the imminent signing of Ederson from Atalanta with another defensive-minded and hard-working option.
Elliot Anderson has been their chief target for that role, but they look set to miss out to Man City, and will now be forced to look elsewhere.
