Man United could pay hefty fee to make big summer signing
Carrick is keen to strengthen his midfield this summer, with the position seen as a priority for Man United in this window.
West Ham star Mateus Fernandes remains on their radar, with the Hammers setting a price tag of around £80million on the 21-year-old.
Real Madrid could provide stern competition for the Red Devils to sign Fernandes, who is almost certain to be leaving West Ham this summer following their relegation from the Premier League.
As a bidding war could begin for the Portugal international, Man United may have to pay over the asking price to sign the midfielder.
