Chido Obi finally has chance of Man United breakthrough after jetting out to Norway

Manchester United supporters have been desperate to catch a glimpse of 18-year-old Chido Obi in the senior set-up at Carrington.

The talented centre-forward began to gain traction during the 2024-25 campaign when he made eight first-team appearances, seven of which came in the Premier League.

He has since failed to appear again in front of the Old Trafford faithful, however, with the club clearly feeling that he had more to gain from youth football.

With 15 goals and four assists in 31 games for the Under-21s, that appears to have worked perfectly for the Red Devils, doing enough to grab the manager's attention.

Michael Carrick has plenty of upcoming friendlies to plan his squad for the 2026-27 campaign, and Chido Obi is at least part of those pre-season plans.

Man United face Rosenborg on Friday, 24 July, as part of their tour across the Scandinavian countries, moving onto Atletico Madrid in Sweden.

Several youngsters are set to be given the nod, with Shea Lacey, JJ Gabriel, Toby Collyer and both Fletcher brothers being flown out to Norway.

For the first time in, what seems like, a very long time, Chido Obi will be included in a first-team squad, joining his academy teammates on tour.

There will be absolutely every hope that he does enough to impress, and that the 18-year-old can finally return to nights under the lights at Old Trafford.

He already looks to be well ahead of his age group in terms of development, and Carrick will surely see that before the season kicks off.

Chido Obi's return to youth football has not been viewed as a setback by those at Old Trafford, but it feels like the right time to give him some valuable minutes at the Theatre of Dreams.

What should the Old Trafford faithful know about Chido Obi?

Despite his rapid rise at Old Trafford, he remains a relatively unknown figure after disappearing back to Carrington for the 2025-26 campaign.

However, he has already written himself into the history books, doing so when making his senior debut against Brentford and becoming the club's youngest-ever Premier League starter in the process.

For someone of his age, Chido Obi is already a damning presence in the final third, standing at six feet and two inches, with an incredible finish.

Coaches have been trying to help the player to become less reliant on that incredible area of his game, though, wanting to improve his link-up play and pressing.

Can he become a complete striker under Carrick? That question can only be answered if the manager gives him the chance to prove himself.
