Everton and Newcastle 'race to sign' Joshua Zirkzee after Man United exit decision

Everton and Newcastle United are among the Premier League clubs who have shown an interest in signing Joshua Zirkzee.

The 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order under Michael Carrick at Man United, and they are planning to cash in on him before the end of the summer transfer window.

Clubs across the Premier League have been keeping a close eye on his situation, with both Everton and Newcastle hoping to sign a striker in the coming days.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Zirkzee would be a "very good option" for any Premier League club despite his struggled at Old Trafford.

The Netherlands international is still highly regarded at his club, but there is an acceptance that he is unlikely to play a significant role in the side this season.

Zikrzee is also being linked with a return to Italy, where he thrived with Bologna before his move to English football, with no shortage of interest in his signature.

Could Premier League clubs move to sign Joshua Zirkzee?

Brown told Football Insider on 11 August that Zirkzee is attracting interest from multiple Premier League clubs as they step up their attempts to sign a new striker.

The forward's experience in the Premier League, alongside his work rate and technical ability, have impressed a number of watching scouts from across European football.

With both Everton and Newcastle aiming to strenghten up front before the 1 September deadline, the duo are believed to be among those showing an interest in Zirkzee.

"There are a number of Premier League clubs interested in signing Zirkzee," Brown told Football Insider.

"He's got all the attributes to be a success somewhere, because he's a willing runner, he works hard, he's got plenty of ability, he just hasn't got going at Man United.

"But even when he has a bad game, the thing that stands out to me is that he never lets his head drop and never stops working hard.

"That will make him an ideal player for a lot of clubs, and I'm sure they will have been impressed by what they've seen from him, even if he's not part of the plans at Man United.

"When you look through the clubs in the Premier League, there are a few who could do with a new striker before the window closes.

"Everton and Newcastle are two of those clubs, and I believe they will have been watching Zirkzee and keeping a close eye on whether or not he becomes available.

"With Man United now open to him leaving, I expect they will be among a few clubs looking to sign him before the end of the window."

Where is Zirkzee's most likely destination?

Amid growing interest from a number of Premier League clubs, as well as clubs in Italy and elsewhere in Europe, Zirkzee will be given a decision to make over his future.

Everton and Newcastle are among those who have been mentioned, while the likes of Aston Villa, Roma and Juventus are all keeping a close eye on his situation.

Football Insider first revealed back in May that Zirkzee is likely to move back to the Serie A as long as Man United can receive a "good" fee for his services.

Questions have been asked about Italian clubs' ability to spend this summer, which might put them in a difficult position to beat Premier League rivals to any deals.

However, Zirkzee's previous success in Italy has alerted a number of their top clubs to his situation, while he is believed to be open to a return.
