Fabian Hurzeler to 'reject' Man United offer

Published on:

Fabian Hurzeler has no plans on leaving his project at Brighton any time soon and is prepared to snub interest from Manchester United.

The 33-year-old is committed to a long-term project at Brigthon, with his side currently sitting second in the Premier League table after a strong start to the season.

A 5-0 demolition of rivals Crystal Palace last time out means the boss' stock is higher than ever, but he is not willing to pull the plug on his time at the Amex Stadium just yet.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Hurzeler remains committed to his job at Brighton and is not interest in putting that at risk.

Despite his experience in management, the boss is still at an early stage of his career, and making the jump to Man United would be seen as a risk after recent boss' fates.

Hurzeler also does not have a release clause in his contract at Brighton, meaning any compensation fee would have to be agreed with the club, and Man United are unlikely to pay.

Could Man United tempt Fabian Hurzeler?

Brown told Football Insider on 22 October that Man United have set their sights on Hurzeler and see him as an ideal candidate if they are forced into a change in manager.

This comes amid increasing pressure on Michael Carrick's position, with doubts about his future in the job given the Red Devils' disastrous start to the season so far.

However, regardless of whether or not Carrick loses his job, Hurzeler is currently considered unlikely to take over as he remains fully committed to his plans at Brighton.

"I do have doubts about whether Hurzeler would be open to taking the Man United job," Brown told Football Insider.

"He's got a good thing going at Brighton, he's getting the best out of those players who clearly enjoy playing for him, and the way things are set up there clearly suits him.

"They're putting something together there with him at the helm, and I'm not sure the same thing can be set at Man United in terms of the direction the club is heading in.

"So Hurzeler himself will have doubts, I'm sure, and I think he would actually reject the offer if it came in, because he's happy with how things are going at Brighton.

"Say he did make the switch to Man United, what's to say it won't be the same story as the last four or five promising managers who have all seen things go wrong there?

"He won't want a repeat of that, especially early in his managerial career, so he can stay at Brighton and keep building what could be a very successful team there."

Which other names are on Man United's radar?

Hurzeler is high on Man United's list of managerial candidates, but is far from the only high-profile boss being considered if they decide to pull the trigger on Carrick.

The likes of Julian Nagelsmann and Unai Emery have been mentioned elsewhere, with both managers highly regarded by the powers that be at Old Trafford.

Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed on 8 October that Antonio Conte is on Man United's shortlist given his availability, having left his role at Napoli during the summer.

The boss recently revealed his desire to return to management with a big club, and his statement seemed to hint that the Red Devils role could be firmly in his sights.

Given his experience, availability and pervious success, Conte could be somebody Man United turn to if they decide to part ways with Carrick in the near future.
