Felix Nmecha has been criticised by German media following their World Cup defeat to Paraguay as he is closely linked to Man United.

Nmecha started as Germany crashed out of the World Cup at the round of 32 stage with a penalty shootout loss to Paraguay on Monday night.

The Borussia Dortmund midfielder drew praise for his performances in the group stage as Julian Nagelsmann's side progressed as Group E winners.

He struggled to make an impact in their first knockout match, however, and was substituted off at half-time before it ended 1-1 after 120 minutes.

Man United supporters will be concerned to hear what national media has had to say about the 25-year-old following the defeat.

Nmecha is believed to be on Michael Carrick's radar as a potential midfield addition in the summer transfer window.

He may well re-evaluate that interest in the Dortmund man after his struggles over the last two World Cup games.

German media berate Felix Nmecha as he is 'partly to blame' for World Cup loss

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that United have shortlisted Nmecha as they eye midfield reinforcements.

He impressed in Germany's first two matches in North America, with a goal in the opener against Curacao and an assist against Ivory Coast.

Nmecha then struggled against Ecuador, and his poor form continued against Paraguay as he failed to mark Julio Enciso before he headed the opener home.

German outlet Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger handed him a 5 out of 10 and said: "Started the tournament strong but then dropped off significantly. Was unable to make an impact in the middle. Poor success rate in one-on-one duels and many misplaced passes. Only a deflected shot created any real danger."

Sportschau slammed Nmecha even further by insisting that he was one of the players at fault for their tournament exit, but were surprised by his early substitution.

They wrote: "He had some strong moments in one-on-one duels right from the start, bringing his physicality to bear. He also had some strong moments on the ball; his through ball to Havertz (33') created a dangerous opportunity. However, his passes into the box too often lacked that final bit of precision—a prime example being his cross from a prime position (45'+2), which got caught by an opponent.

"He was partly to blame for the goal conceded because he lost track of his man, Enciso. His substitution at halftime was nonetheless somewhat surprising, as he was still one of the better players on the field."

How much do Dortmund want for Nmecha?

Nmecha was a regular for Dortmund last season as he registered six goals and three assists in 47 games from central midfield.

Sources have told Football Insider that Dortmund have slapped a price tag of £100million on Nmecha as the Red Devils eye a move.

They remain relaxed over his future and have no plans to let him leave as it stands, after he signed a new contract extension in March to tie down his future until 2030.
