Harry Kane backed to play 'important' role in Marcus Rashford leaving Man United

Harry Kane is set to play a key role in convincing Marcus Rashford to join Bayern Munich as he edges closer to leaving Manchester United.

The 28-year-old winger was considered likely to join Barcelona this summer, but the Spainish club opted against paying his £26million option to make his loan permanent.

As a result, he will return to Man United, with a queue of clubs both in the Premier League and across Europe looking to lure him away.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that he expects Rashford to leave Old Trafford with Bayern Munich now seen as the leading contenders.

Vincent Kompany is keen to land a new left-winger this summer after missing out on Anthony Gordon, who instead joined Barcelona to replace Rashford.

Kane and Rashford are currently preparing for England's opening game of the World Cup against Croatia in Dallas, and could be set to link up at club level next season.

Could Bayern Munich make a move to sign Marcus Rashford?

Brown told Football Insider on 15 June that Bayern Munich are the favourites to sign Rashford in what would be a perfect move for the England international.

While there is no clear space for the winger to step straight into the starting XI, and he will compete with Luis Diaz, there is a feeling the move could be ideal.

Bundesliga football would allow Rashford to display his best attributes, while Man United would be happy to move him on outside of the Premier League.

"Bayern Munich will already know pretty much all there is to know about Rashford," Brown told Football Insider.

"It's not like he's an unknown quantity, they will have been keeping an eye on his performances over the years, and they feel he would be a good fit for the squad.

"But it always helps when there are relationships already there, so Harry Kane could play an important role in convincing him to join.

"They're both away with England at the moment, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was putting a good word in and talking up the possibility of a move to Bayern Munich.

"It works the other way around as well, Bayern Munich can ask Kane if they have any concerns or uncertainty about him.

"Whether that's his attitude, how hard he works in training, little thinigs behind the scenes that you might not otherwise know, he can help out on that front.

"It's not too far beyong the realms of imagination that Kane could contribute quite heavily to help Bayern get a deal for Rashford over the line."

Will Harry Kane play a key role in Bayern's transfer plans?

Kane has been tipped to play a significant role in luring Rashford to Bayern Munich, with the two forming a strong relationship through their long England careers.

This would not be the first time Kane has been asked to help out on the transfer front, however, with Bayern hoping to use his influence to lure star players in.

Football Insider revealed in January that Kane had be asked to sell the idea of a move to the Bundesliga giants to Marc Guehi before he left Crystal Palace.

The German giants were prepared to battle Man City and Liverpool for the centre-back's signature and viewed him as a leading target.

Bayern were confident of signing the England star on a free transfer, but the Man City made Crystal Palace an offer they could not refuse with just six months on his contract.
