Marcus Rashford set for 'perfect move' as Man United exit nears after 'crazy' twist
Marcus Rashford is now increasingly likely to join Bayern Munich after Barcelona opted against paying Manchester United's asking price.
The Red Devils have been holding out for Barcelona to pay his £26million option to buy following a successful loan spell in Catalonia, but that has now expired.
As things stand, the 28-year-old is expected to return to Old Trafford this summer, but with all parties still keen on a move, Bayern Munich could capitalise.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Bayern Munich would be a perfect destination for Rashford as he prepares to move on permanently.
Vincent Kompany's side are determined to land a new left-winger this summer after missing out on Rashford's England teammate Anthony Gordon already.
The Man United academy graduate has now been identified as a top target, and there is a feeling that the Bundesliga is now his most likely destination.
Could Bayern Munich move to sign Marcus Rashford?
Football Insider reported on 12 June that odds have been slashed for Rashford to join Bayern Munich after his move to Barcelona seemingly fell through.
The England international has no plans to return to Man United following the World Cup, and while Premier League clubs are keen, he is eyeing another move abroad.
Bayern don't have a clear place in their side for Rashford, who will compete with Luis Diaz for a starting role, but he has been backed to thrive in the Budesliga.
"Bayern Munich would be the perfect destination for Marcus Rashford," Brown told Football Insider.
"I find it crazy that Barcelona didn't want to pay the £26m fee, for me that would be a no-brainer, but now we are where we are and it looks like they're going to miss out.
"Barcelona was always his preferred destination, but now he'll return to Man United and there are clubs all over Europe who will be willing to make a move.
"Bayern Munich stand out amongst those, however, and that's exactly the kind of move Rashford will have been looking for away from Barcelona.
"His game will suit the Bundesliga, he'll have a lot of success out there, and they want a new winger after they missed out on Gordon, so it's a deal that works for everybody.
"I expect they will be more willing to meet the asking price, and if they go and do that, then it should be relatively straightforward."
How does Rashford feel about joining Bayern Munich?
Rashford has been fairly clear about his intentions this summer, with no plans to return to the Premier League as he eyes a permanent exit from Old Trafford.
In fact, Football Insider revealed in April that Rashford has his heart set on joining Barcelona permanently, having thoroughly enjoyed his successful loan spell.
However, after Barcelona opted against paying his £26m fee while Man United are unwilling to negotiate his price tag, he has been forced to consider alternatives.
A move to Bayern Munich would allow him to continue the trophy-winning success he had at Barcelona, while he could also link up with his England teammate Harry Kane.
Kompany is believed to be keen to convince the winger to make the switch, and the Bundesliga giants are now seen as the clear leaders in the race to sign him.
