Joaquin Seys to Man United should take new turn as latest data emerges
Joaquin Seys' latest performance on international duty should rule him out of becoming the solution to Man United's left-back woes.
Seys has been on United's radar for several months as they plan to make a new left-back signing in the January window.
Michael Carrick wanted to bolster the position over the summer as the 21-year-old emerged as a leading target.
United's board decided against signing the Club Brugge starlet, or any new left-back for that matter, with Carrick now having to stick with the existing options at his disposal.
Seys has impressed in Belgium but clearly has a long way to go to be able to compete with the world's best players on the biggest stages.
He was run ragged on Monday night as France came from behind to decimate Belgium in their final Nations League clash of the international break.
Joaquin Seys is not ready for Man United step up
Seys continued his impressive development by registering 13 goal contributions in 55 appearances for Club Brugge last season.
Sources exclusively revealed to Football Insider in August that United were working on signing Seys ahead of the deadline as Brugge demanded around £30million for his services.
The Red Devils should be glad that the deal ultimately never materialised based on his latest performance on the big stage against France.
Seys failed to track Michael Olise before he crossed for Rayan Cherki to make it 2-1 to Les Bleus, then was all at sea as Olise danced down his flank before going on to score the hosts' third.
He picked up a yellow card for a foul on Lucas Da Cunha, while also making just 13 accurate passes in 90 minutes and failing to create a chance.
Seys was shown a different level by an electric French attack, particularly in the last half hour, with no response to their free-flowing football.
United should be targeting someone much more experienced in big games than Seys to solve their left-back issues in January.
What is the latest on Luke Shaw's future at Old Trafford?
Shaw has remained as Carrick's first-choice left-back for the time being, despite concerns over his long-term fitness after United's return to the Champions League.
The 31-year-old's contract is set to expire next June, with their extensive left-back search leading many to believe that he will leave for pastures new at the end of the season.
Sources have, however, exclusively revealed to Football Insider that United are planning to hold talks over a new deal with Shaw at the start of next year.
