Lewis Hall 'will not join Man United' as Newcastle stance clear

Manchester United believe they have now missed out on signing Lewis Hall after delaying their summer transfer plans.

The 22-year-old was a leading target for Michael Carrick's side during the transfer window, but they ultimately missed out due to Newcastle's reluctance to sell.

Since then, the left-back has put pen to paper on a contract extention at St James' Park to further strengthen his side's resolve, making a renewed move increasingly difficult.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the club's decision to delay their plans until next summer have made a move for Hall highly unlikely.

Neither Hall nor Newcastle gave the green light to Man United, raising question marks about the apparent confidence of their plans to return with an offer next summer.

Now, Carrick's side will be left scrambling to find a new left-back in 2027, with any move for Hall seeming off the cards as things stand.

What did Man United have planned for Lewis Hall?

Football Insider revealed on 5 September that Man United will reignite their interest in Hall next summer, with a new left-back still at the top of their list of priorities.

They failed to proceed past registering their interest in his services, and decided against making a move, instead preferring to delay their interest until next year.

However, after Hall put pen to paper on a contract extension, any move to Old Trafford is considered highly unlikely with Man United criticised for the decision.

"It looks like Man United are going to miss out on Lewis Hall now," Brown told Football Insider.

"Their plan was to return to the deal later on, they thought they would get it done next summer, but did anybody tell Newcastle? Did anybody tell Hall?

"I don't see how they could make a plan like that, be so casual about it, when there was clearly no encouragement from the club or the player that there would be a deal to be done.

"Now, if they want to go back in for him next year, it's going to cost them a hell of a lot more money and that's if the deal is even on.

"As far as I'm concerned now, the likelihood is that Lewis Hall will not join Man United, he looks more likely to stay at Newcastle and continue what they're doing there."

Which other left-backs are on Man United's radar?

After seemingly missing out on Hall, the Red Devils will be forced to consider one of the other left-backs on their shortlist ahead of next summer's transfer window.

Carrick remains determiend to add a new full-back to his squad, with the position having become a priority as a result of the lack of depth and quality in the position.

Brown told Football Insider on 16 September that Man United have set their sights on a move to sign Crystal Palace star Tyrick Mitchell, who is high on their shortlist.

The 27-year-old is out of contract at Selhurst Park at the end of the season, and has attracted a number of suitors from across the Premier League and Europe as a result.

The left-back ticks multiple boxes for Carrick's side, with his consistency, reliability, defensive ability and recent improvements to his attacking game impressing watching scouts.
