Liverpool join 'race' to sign Tyrick Mitchell after contract twist
Liverpool and Chelsea are among the clubs who have joined the race to sign Crystal Palace star Tyrick Mitchell next summer.
The 27-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park, placing a number of the Premier League's top clubs on alert over his potential availability.
Man United are also believed to be among those tracking the left-back, but they will face high-profile competition if he is allowed to leave Crystal Palace next year.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Mitchell's performances for Palace have attracted plenty of interest in his services, especially on a free.
The England international has been a stalwart at Selhurst Park since his first senior appearance in 2020, and has now made 248 appearances for the Eagles.
Crystal Palace remain hopeful that Mitchell will put pen to paper on a contract extension as they aim to deter his suitors, but the level of interest in him could cause delays.
Which clubs are interested in Tyrick Mitchell?
Brown told Football Insider on 16 September that Man United have been keeping a close eye on Mitchell's situation at Crystal Palace with a move in mind for next summer.
Michael Carrick's side have been determined to strengthen at left-back after missing out on their targets in the summer, and have identified him as a leading target.
However, Liverpool are also keen to strenghten in that position, while Chelsea will view his potential availability as a market opportunity they hope to take advantage of.
"Man United aren't going to be the only club interested in signing Mitchell," Brown told Football Insider.
"For any club looking for a left-back in the Premier League, there are not many options who come up with such consistent performances as Mitchell has for Crystal Palace.
"He impresses every single week, gets on with his job, he's terrific defensively and he's improved the attacking side of his game as well, he's a top, top player.
"So when you look at those top clubs, you've got Liverpool where Milos Kerkez has been questioned a bit and maybe isn't as consistent as they'd like him to be.
"Then you've got Chelsea, who are always going to be interested in this type of deal where they can bring a quality player in without having to spend big.
"Either of those clubs could make a move for Mitchell, because as I say, he will tick a number of boxes for them and could be a very good addition."
How do Crystal Palace feel about losing Mitchell?
Whether any of the Premier League's top clubs are tempted to make moves for Mitchell will largely depend on whether he pens a new deal with Crystal Palace.
Despite the number of admirers the left-back has attracted, he remains a Crystal Palace player as things stand, and they will hope to tie him down to a new deal.
Brown told Football Insider on 7 September that Crystal Palace are prepared to do everything in their power for Mitchell to commit his long-term future to the club.
He has made significant progress in his game over the last two seasons, and is an ever-present at Selhurst Park, with the club keen to reward him for his displays.
Mitchell is believed to be very happy at Crystal Palace and is willing to discuss terms over a new deal, having played a key role in their FA Cup and Conference League victories.
