Man United dressing room 'turns on Lisandro Martinez' after his 'bombshell'

Published on:

Michael Carrick will feel the real heat of being a Manchester United manager after Lisandro Martinez's blistering attacking on the board.

That is according to experienced former Tottenham, Everton and Aston Villa scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The English manager is sensing growing pressure at Old Trafford with results far from expectations.

Tuesday's 2-0 defeat by Atletico Madrid means United have now gone five games without a win.

"We did a fantastic season last season and now we expect more from the top, more players to compete because many teams bring many players as well," Martinez told Amazon Prime afterwards.

"Atletico have an amazing team and they deserved to win today. I expect more [investment]. 100%. I expect more from our technical director [Jason Wilcox]."

Michael Carrick questioned after post-Tottenham comments

Carrick has insisted that he is enjoying being the Man United manager at the moment despite the poor results.

However, that stance has been met with plenty of scepticism as to whether that is the case or just the line he is giving the media.

With scrutiny mounting on Carrick, the pressure is certainly beginning to build, with his job far from safe at the moment.

"He says he relishes being a manager when things are not going right. Well, he's saying one thing to the paper; I can assure him there's nothing better when you're winning, or you're getting good results," King told Football Insider.

"To find that anti-virus to stop losing games or giving away goals. To be honest, I thought Man United were fortunate to get a draw at the weekend.

"As for Carrick saying this morning [13 October] that he relishes the thought of feeling the pressure and all that, then, yeah, well, I don't believe it.

"He is going to really feel the pressure of being Man United manager now, especially after the defeat to Atletico and the comments made by Lisandro Martinez.

"That will have dropped a bomb in the dressing room, I can tell you. The other players will be turning to him and saying, 'why have you said that?' It will make things worse."

What is the latest on Carrick at Man United?

Michael Carrick's job at Man United is safe for now, Football Insider was told by former chief scout Mick Brown on 13 October.

The Red Devils have no immediate plans to part ways with their manager despite the poor start to the season.

However, as is football, things can quickly change, and if results do not begin ticking upwards, the Manchester United board will undoubtedly be left with no choice.

Carrick showed he can get a tune out of this squad, bringing them into the Champions League places last season.

But he is currently far from passing his true test at one of the biggest clubs in the world, with the prospect of a full season ahead of him.
