Man United in 'dressing room' mutiny, the players are 'unhappy'
Michael Carrick is coming under increasing pressure at Manchester United as a result of dressing room unrest, sources have told Football Insider.
Significant sections of the Red Devils dressing room are believed to be unhappy with how their season has gone so far, and are venting their grievances on and off the pitch.
Both Bruno Fernandes and Lisandro Martinez, key influences behind the scenes, have recently taken aim at the manager and the club's hierarchy in damning statements.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, the players' comments have raised new questions about Carrick's position as manager.
Following a miserable start to the season in which Man United have won just two of their first 11 games across all competitions, and are currently winless in seven games.
That has led to many calling for Carrick's head, and while the board have been keen to back him, they are also under pressure and could be forced into a decision.
Could Michael Carrick be sacked by Man United?
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 22 October that Carrick is fighting for his job and is now increasingly likely to be sacked.
A 4-1 defeat against Serie A outfit Como last time out has raised the pressure on his position once again, with some fans feeling now is the time to make a change.
Meanwhile, comments from Martinez, Fernandes and former manager Erik ten Hag have raised question marks behind the scenes which could force the club to move.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "This dissent that's going on within the camp right now, in the dressing room as well, it doesn't paint a good picture of Man United.
"We've had Bruno Fernandes questioning the tactics as well, and obviously we had Lisandro Martinez questioning the recruitment hierarchy for not strengthening enough.
"It's time now for Man United to batten down the hatches and try and battle through the stormy waters that they're in right now.
"But the whole thing just piles even more pressure on Michael Carrick, who finds his position really under increased pressure, and with the players seemingly unhappy as well.
"So he is coming under a lot of pressure now because of matters off the pitch as well as on it, which is never a good sign."
Who could come in to replace Carrick?
Carrick's increasingly unstable position as Man United manager has led to speculation about who could be brought in to replace him, with multiple top bosses in mind.
The likes of Antonio Conte, Fabian Hurzeler and Unai Emery have all been mentioned in recent weeks, with United officials believed to be big fans of all of them.
Meanwhile, Football Insider ervealed on 11 October that Man United could pursue Eddie Howe as their next manager, and could look to tempt him back into the dugout.
The boss left Newcastle during the summer and was widely tipped to take a break from football, but the opportunity to take the reins at Old Trafford may be hard to turn down.
Howe has plenty of admirers behind the scenes at Old Trafford, and the prospect of moving to take charge of the club is understood to appeal to him.
