Man United make new Michael Carrick sack plan
Manchester United currently have no plans to sack Michael Carrick despite a belief that their results have not been good enough.
The Red Devils have won just one of their first five Premier League games this season, and were dumped out of the League Cup by Brighton, adding to their concerns.
However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Carrick is now whoely to blame for the slow start to the season and the club are aware of that.
There is a feeling that the boss was not supported enough in the transfer market and there are still major weaknesses in his team which are causing problems on the pitch.
Meanwhile, there are also concerns that sacking Carrick and bringing in his replacement would only lead to more turmoil and would tear up all of the good work he has done.
Could Man United sack Michael Carrick?
Brown told Football Insider on 8 September that Carrick has the full backing of the Man United board and long-term plans are being put in place with him at the helm.
The club approached the season with optimism following last year's Champions League qualification, and Carrick is still being heavily backed after his successful spell.
While there are concerns about recent results and there is a feeling that they must improve quickly, they will not rush into any decisions over the manager's future.
"Michael Carrick cannot be solely to blame for Man United's issues," Brown told Football Insider.
"He's working with what he's got available to him and in the situation the club have placed him. Everybody knows the problems in this squad, including the club.
"Carrick is having to deal with a weak squad, there are issues all over the place, and if the decision-makers are clever they will see that the issues aren't all down to the manager.
"There's no doubt the results are not good enough, they have much higher expectations and they want to be higher up in the league than they are at the moment, but wouldn't we all.
"They're in a situation now where two wins would see them fly up the table, and two defeats would see them sink right down, but so are a few clubs in the Premier League.
"I don't see how sacking Michael Carrick would have any positive impact, because then you've got to rip it all up and start again with somebody else.
"So I would be surprised if they were planning to look for somebody else at the moment, they want to back Carrick and hope he will turn things around, but he's certainly under pressure.
"Any manager in the league would be under pressure after the start to the season they've had, but I haven't heard anything to suggest that he could be sacked right now."
What issues is Carrick facing at Man United?
Despite the pressure on his position after a miserable start to the new season, there are concerns that Carrick is battling a number of issues at Old Trafford.
While any furstrations over the results will ultimately fall at his feet, there is a feeling the squad is not good enough and he has not been sufficiently supported for success.
Major weaknesses in his side and poor decision-making behind the scenes have raised red flags, and left the manager frustrated along with the supporters.
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed that Carrick is set to face more issues at Man United when they are playing two games per week in Europe and cup competitions.
During his interim spell last season, the boss only had to focus on Premier League outings, but must now factor in the extra games and potential difficulties as a result.
