Man United must sanction Patrick Dorgu transfer, he's a 'real problem'

Patrick Dorgu has already divided supporters at Old Trafford over his first three seasons as a Manchester United player.

The 21-year-old joined from Lecce for £30million in February 2025, and managers have been trying to work out his best position ever since.

In 2026-27, Michael Carrick has primarily played him as a left-back, but he has been known to venture forward into a left-winger role.

It is fair to say that his performances have been overall quite poor, even being dropped to the bench for Man United's 1-1 draw with Fulham.

He did come on at the end, grabbing an assist to salvage a point at Craven Cottage, but many are still not convinced by his capabilities.

Now, it could be quite some time before anyone sees him on the pitch again, succumbing to the same international break curse as many others.

Patrick Dorgu could be set for long-term layoff

Teammate Bruno Fernandes was also forced to miss his nation's last game, but it wouldn't appear that his injury is as bad as Dorgu's.

Dorgu has already withdrawn from the Denmark squad and has returned to Old Trafford after lasting just 30 minutes against Wales on Sunday, 27 September.

In 2025-26, he missed 12 games for club and country with a hamstring injury, and now he could be set for another extended spell on the sidelines.

Given that he arrived with such high expectations, very few can argue that United's No.13 hasn't disappointed, and now his injuries are increasing.

Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this month that Dorgu's becoming a "real problem" for the Red Devils, with questions over his long-term future already.

What do we know about Bruno Fernandes' injury?

Of course, Fernandes' situation will be far more concerning, having been left out of Portugal's squad for the 2-1 win over Norway this weekend.

Jorge Jesus has confirmed that the 32-year-old arrived at the camp with an injury, though, and that he played through the pain against Wales.

That will be the last thing that Carrick wants to hear, but unlike Dorgu, Fernandes very rarely has to miss games through injury.

While the 32-year-old continues to be of interest in Saudi Arabia, Man United can't afford for him to leave.

Dorgu, on the other hand, should be considered for sale at Old Trafford.
