Man United 'very keen' on Fabian Hurzeler

Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are believed to be "very keen" on Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler.

The 33-year-old has led Brighton to a fantastic start to the season so far, with three wins, one draw and one defear from their opening five Premier League games.

He has also led his side to a win at Old Trafford in the Carabao Cup, having been 2-0 down, and is receiving plenty of plaudits for the work he has done with the Seagulls.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Hurzeler is highly regarded among Premier League chiefs and will be targeted by "top clubs".

With Michael Carrick and Roberto De Zerbi both facing intense scrutiny in their current roles, it may not be long before Man United or Spurs decide to pull the trigger.

While it remains to be seen whether Hurzeler could be tempted away from Brighton in the near future, and they do not want to lose him, clubs could explore the possibility.

Could Fabian Hurzeler be tempted to leave Brighton?

Brown told Football Insider in April that Hurzeler was a target for Bayer Leverkusen, who had considered luring him back to Germany, but Brighton were determined to block his exit.

The boss is under a long-term contract at the Amex until 2029, such is their commitment to his style, but there have been suggestions he could be lured away.

After impressive results like the 4-0 win against Aston Villa, 5-0 against Coventry, and most recently the 3-0 dismantling of Arsenal, Hurzeler is held in very high regard.

"Any top club in the Premier League, or in the world, who need a new manager will be looking at Hurzeler," Brown told Football Insider.

"He's done a fantastic job with Brighton to get them where they have been over the last couple of years, and he's doing well again this year, they're now up to third in the table.

"So I have no doubt that some of these top clubs are very keen on him, and I'm told that obviously includes the likes of Man United and Tottenham.

"I would be surprised if it was something they were looking to do in the immediate future, I don't think either club wants to have a change of manager this early in the season.

"But if they do decide to pull the trigger, Hurzeler is going to be high on their lists, because he's always spoken about very highly in these circles.

"After what he's doing with Brighton this season, it might be difficult to get him out of there because they're very happy with him and it seems like he's happy there.

"But if a top club comes calling they might be able to test Brighton's resolve and potentially lure him away."

How do Man United feel about sacking Michael Carrick?

Man United's interest in Hurzeler comes amid growing pressure on Carrick's position after what has been a slow start to the season across all competitions.

The Red Devils have won just one of their first five Premier League games this season, and were dumped out of the League Cup by Brighton, adding to their concerns.

However, Brown told Football Insider on 21 September that Man United currently have no plans to sack Carrick and hope he will be able to turn their recent form around.

There is a feeling that the boss was not supported enough in the transfer market and there are still major weaknesses in his team which are causing problems on the pitch.

Meanwhile, there are also concerns that sacking Carrick and bringing in his replacement would only lead to more turmoil and would tear up all of the good work he has done.
