Man United's three-man shortlist revealed as late signing spree imminent
Michael Carrick wants Man United to make three new signings before the summer transfer window closes next week, sources have told Football Insider.
The Red Devils are facing an important end to the window after suffering a shock 2-0 defeat to newly-promoted Hull City on Saturday.
Carrick's side looked off the pace to start the new Premier League season as the Tigers came away with three points in East Yorkshire.
United had just two new faces in their starting eleven as Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos struggled to make their mark in midfield.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Carrick is keen to see multiple new players arrive before the deadline, with a new central midfielder, left-back and left winger being prioritised.
They are closing in on the first of those three targets, with Brighton's Carlos Baleba set to officially join the club soon for around £70million.
Man United eyeing left-back and left winger to follow Carlos Baleba signing
United have been looking to sign a new left-back throughout the window, but are having to explore alternative targets as Newcastle stand firm against selling Lewis Hall.
Marcus Rashford has returned to add depth to Carrick's forward line, but a new left wing signing remains on the agenda before next Tuesday's deadline.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "(Central midfield) has been the key priority area that United's recruitment team wanted to strengthen, so if they bring in Baleba that'll be three signings made.
"Left back is an area of the team that United are looking to strengthen too, they’ve obviously been frustrated in their pursuit of Lewis Hall. They've been looking at other players as well, as they want cover and competition for Luke Shaw.
"And then they have looked at a left winger as well, but maybe that need for a new left winger has been lessened with Marcus Rashford returning to the club. As things stand right now, he might play a big role for United this season, and he'll almost be like a new signing for them."
Man United working on Joaquin Seys deal
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Club Brugge star Seys is a top left-back target for the Red Devils as it stands.
Seys was a part of Belgium's World Cup squad earlier this summer after he registered five goals and eight assists in 55 club appearances last season.
United are keen on his services, but want to broker a deal for less than his £30m price tag over the next eight days.
The likes of Alejandro Balde, David Raum and Jorge Salinas have also been linked to Old Trafford as potential targets to bolster their left-back depth.
