Man United's updated stance on Alex Scott deal revealed by insider after deal agreed
Manchester United are keeping a close eye on Alex Scott but are not yet prepared to make a formal move for the Bournemouth star.
The 22-year-old enjoyed an outstanding season with Bournemouth last time out and has attracted a number of suitors, with Man United having watched him closely.
However, their interest is no more advanced than that at this stage, with a number of other midfield targets also being assessed at Old Trafford.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the club are strong admirers of Scott, but are undecided about whether to make a move.
Michael Carrick's side have already missed out on their top targets Elliot Anderson, Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali, who have joined Man City and Tottenham respectively.
This has forced them to consider other options, but given the finances involved, they are unsure about making an offer to Bournemouth as things stand.
Could Man United make a move for Alex Scott?
Football Insider revealed on 3 July that Man United could accelerate their move for Scott after missing out on other key targets early in the summer transfer window.
However, while they are still keeping a close eye on his situation, doubts have emerged about whether United are prepared to make a move for the midfielder.
Instead, they will continue to assess their options after being forced down their list of targets as they aim to ensure they land the right fit for their squad.
"Man United are in a difficult position with their midfield targets now," Brown told Football Insider.
"They've missed out on a lot of the players who they've really wanted, when you look at Elliot Anderson going to Man City, Fernandes and Tonali both going to Tottenham.
"All of a sudden, Man United are looking further and further down the list, and that's always a difficult position to be in for any club.
"You don't want to do a deal just for the sake of it, you have to make sure they're the right player and the right fit for what you're trying to do, so that leads to question marks.
"Alex Scott seems to be the one being spoken about the most, and Man United are interested, but whether they make a move for him, I'm not sure.
"Bournemouth are asking for a lot of money, and when you compare him to the likes of Anderson and Fernandes, he's not the same type of player.
"They don't want to go and spend a big fee on a player who isn't actually the one they wanted, so they're looking at different options who might fit their plans a bit better."
How do Bournemouth feel about selling Scott?
Despite growing interest from Man United and links with a number of other top clubs, any deal for Scott will have to be on Bournemouth's terms this summer.
The Cherries enjoyed a strong season last time out and qualified for the Europa League, and are now determined to keep hold of their best players as a result.
Football Insider revealed on 5 July that Bournemouth are stepping up talks over a new contract for Scott as they hope to tie down his future at the Vitality Stadium.
New boss Marco Rose is keen to see the 22-year-old sign a new contract, with his current deal set to expire in 2028, and talks are well underway.
Any new deal is expected to contain a release clause, which may spark interest from potential suitors, but will ensure they get a good fee for the midfielder.
