Myles Lewis-Skelly's updated stance on last-gasp Arsenal transfer revealed

Myles Lewis-Skelly has no plans to leave Arsenal this summer despite ongoing interest from Man United, sources have told Football Insider.

The 19-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford in the closing stages of the transfer window, but remains a key part of Mikel Arteta's plans for the future.

Man United, meanwhile, are unlikely to be able to afford the sort of fee it would take to prise the England international away from the Gunners in the coming days.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Lewis-Skelly is happy to remain at Arsenal as long as he is playing regular first-team football.

This comes after the midfielder dropped out of Arteta's side for a long spell of last season, leading to the initial suggestions that he could look to leave the Emirates.

However, he has now started the Gunners' first two games of the new season alongside last season's Champions League final, and is happy to stay at Arsenal.

What do Arsenal have planned for Myles Lewis-Skelly?

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this month that Arteta has already shown the plans he has for Lewis-Skelly in the upcoming season.

The boss has trusted the 19-year-old with a regular place in his midfield and his recent playing time has come as a vote of confidence for his future in the side.

Despite ongoing links with a move to Man United or Chelsea, neither Arsenal nor Lewis-Skelly have any intention of agreeing a move away at this stage.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "I don't see it happening in all honesty. I don't think Man United have the funds available to try and convince Arsenal to sell Lewis-Skelly.

"Lewis-Skelly has become a key man for Mikel Arteta. I don't think Arsenal have any plans to let him go before the end of the window.

"Even this early in the season, he was very impressive in that midfield role against Man City in the Community Shield, and again against Coventry on the opening day of the season.

"Mikel Arteta has insisted he is a big part of his plans and he is 100 per cent committed to the club as well.

"The player himself, as long as he's playing, is happy to stay at Arsenal and he's going to play a key role for them this season. Arsenal have no willingness to let Lewis-Skelly go, so it's a non-starter for me."

Why are Man United interested in Lewis-Skelly?

Man United's interest in Lewis-Skelly came as a result of his potential availability, with the Red Devils placed on alert after being told there could be a deal to be done.

Football Insider revealed on 28 August that Arsenal had been open to letting Lewis-Skelly leave at the start of the window as they planned to raise funds through his sale.

Andrea Berta had been tasked with cashing in on some of the Gunners' fringe players as they aimed to reinvest, and the England international was among those considered.

However, Arteta has since been clear that Lewis-Skelly remains a big part of his plans for the future and should not be sold at this late stage.

Sources say Arsenal had considered the midfielder's sale, but have now gone back on the decision, as he is viewed as an important part of their long-term future.
