Sources: Man United make Lisandro Martinez contract decision
Man United are set to take up the option to extend Lisandro Martinez's contract for another year, sources have told Football Insider.
Martinez's current United contract is set to expire in June 2027 after he signed a five-year deal upon joining the club in 2022.
He has started this season as a regular in Michael Carrick's starting eleven after impressing for Argentina at the World Cup.
The 28-year-old struggled with injury woes last season but managed to become a mainstay under Carrick towards the end of the campaign as United qualified for the Champions League.
He is keen to stay at Old Trafford beyond next summer and the club are planning to exercise the one-year extension option in his contract to protect his value.
Martinez is battling to prove his fitness to Carrick as the club weigh up whether to offer him a longer deal.

Martinez has missed over 100 games for club and country through injury since joining United from Ajax four years ago.
He has racked up 112 appearances for the Red Devils in that time, with just 21 of those outings coming in the last 12 months.
The 28-year-old is a huge asset to the club when fit, and proved his quality at the World Cup with seven starts as Argentina reached a second successive final.
He is set for regular minutes at the heart of Carrick's defence this season, with games aplenty as he competes with Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven.
Bruno Fernandes also set for one-year United extension
United have several stars coming to the end of their initial contracts in June, with Fernandes the most high-profile among them.
The club hold a similar option to extend his deal by another season, however, and sources have revealed to Football Insider that United plan to trigger Fernandes' one-year option.
They also want to hand him a new long-term deal to better reflect his status as their most important player, as well protecting his value, with clubs in Saudi Arabia and Turkey remaining interested in sealing his services.
