Sources: Man United on alert as Harry Kane contract update emerges
Man United will look to pounce if Harry Kane is unable to reach a new contract agreement with Bayern Munich, sources have told Football Insider.
Kane is attracting attention from several of the biggest clubs in the world as he approaches the end of his initial contract at Bayern next June.
Talks over an extension are ongoing between the two parties as the German champions look to tie him down for another three years.
The England captain recently admitted that a new deal is not likely to be announced just yet, with several terms still yet to be agreed.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Man United are among the leading candidates to sign him for free next summer if Kane fails to agree a new deal with Bayern.
The Red Devils have long been linked with a move for Kane, who is tipped to return to England before he retires in an attempt to break Alan Shearer's Premier League scoring record.

Kane smashed the record for the quickest time to reach 100 Bundesliga goals with a brace in his 98th game in the league last Friday night.
He remains at the top of his game, with Ballon d'Or glory potentially on the horizon, and would represent a huge coup for United if they are able to capitalise on his availability next summer.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "If he were to become available, you'd have all the top clubs in the world interested; the Barcelona's, Man United’s, and then I'm sure there'll be a number of Premier League clubs who would like to sign him too.
"Bayern, right now, are very confident that he will sign a new contract and that his long-term future lies in Bavaria."
What has Kane said about extending his Bayern deal?
Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Kane is keen to stay at Bayern amid high-profile interest, but there is still a way to go to agree on a new deal.
He has started this campaign in predictably strong form, with six goals and two assists in seven appearances so far.
The 33-year-old offered clarity on his contract situation to reporters earlier this month, saying: "We had conversations a couple of weeks ago and some more this week. As I said before, a contract doesn’t happen overnight - it takes time to digest and see how we can make it the best case possible for everyone involved.
"I don’t expect it to be done in the next week or two, but hopefully in the next one or two months we should be where we want to be. Right now I’m at a happy place. I’m sure in due time you’ll know about the details and get the answers you’re looking for. All I can say now is that the conversations are going well."
