Man United are set to agree a deal to sign Carlos Baleba imminently after Brighton lowered their initial transfer demands, sources have told Football Insider.

Baleba was a target for the Red Devils throughout last summer, but then-boss Ruben Amorim decided against signing a new central midfielder.

Michael Carrick has prioritised bolstering his options in the middle of the park this summer, with Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos arriving from Aston Villa and Chelsea.

The Brighton midfielder has emerged back onto United's radar towards the end of the window despite struggling for form at times last term.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, his price tag has lowered as a result of his drop-off, with the Red Devils now expecting to seal his signature with another offer.

Their initial £65million package offer is below the Seagulls' valuation, but a deal is set to be agreed as soon as United submit a new, higher bid.

Man United to seal Carlos Baleba agreement as Brighton lower demands

Brighton were demanding over £100m to part ways with the Cameroon international last summer, yet United should get a deal done for £70m just 12 months later.

Baleba is due to arrive at Old Trafford in the next week to agree a long-term contract and add a new dimension to Carrick's midfield.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "There's a willingness from all parties for this deal to finally happen. Baleba has been a long-term target for United. They considered him last summer, but felt the asking price that Brighton were demanding was a bit too much.

"The asking price has dropped this summer. United have made that first offer of £60million plus £5m, which I don't think will meet the number that Brighton will want, but there are talks ongoing between the two clubs, and I'm sure a compromise can be agreed."

Carrick has also been looking to bring in a new left-back this summer, but Lewis Hall is unlikely to join United despite being a leading target.

Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Club Brugge defender Seys is on the Red Devils' radar, but they will only proceed with a deal for less than his £30m asking price.

Arsenal and Liverpool have also registered their interest in the Belgian international, who registered 13 goal contributions in 55 games last season.
