Stefan Borson drops Michael Carrick sack verdict - 'He may not survive the week'
Michael Carrick may have lost the Manchester United dressing room as pressure builds on the manager at Old Trafford.
That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that there is a slim possibility of the 45-year-old saving his job.
The Red Devils are winless in their last seven games across all competitions, most recently being embarrassed by Como in the Champions League.
A 4-1 defeat to the Serie A side was made even worse by the fact that Como were fighting for promotion from Italy's third tier in 2020-21.
After the game, just days after Lisandro Martinez's outburst, Bruno Fernandes criticised the team's tactics, which instantly stole the headlines.
It is understood that Carrick will be in charge for Man United's clash with Bournemouth on Sunday, 25 October, but that might not last much longer.
Michael Carrick is a 'big problem' for Man United owners
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson believes that Carrick no longer has the trust of the dressing room, with the end coming for United's manager.
"I think that there is an inevitability that the end is coming quite soon. There aren't many managers that have managed to turn around a situation similar to Carrick's right now," he said.
"There's certainly a possibility of having issues in the dressing room, and that's problematic because it's not just a case of what's happening on the pitch game by game.
"If you've also got players who are saying negative things in the aftermath, that just creates a big problem for the ownership.
"So they're obviously going to be thinking about whether now is the right time. Carrick might now survive this week or next week."
Will Bruno Fernandes be offered a new contract?
The situation has, understandably, brought Fernandes' new contract into disrepute, with many believing that he should be sold as soon as possible.
Fernandes' contract will expire this summer if Man United decide not to trigger the one-year extension, with talks over a new deal at an impasse.
Despite the situation, former United scout Mick Brown believes that losing the 32-year-old next summer would still be a "huge blow" at Old Trafford.
Fernandes has been one of the most consistent playmakers over the last few seasons, and very few offer what he can in the final third.
