Marc Cucurella hits back at Chelsea fans in now-deleted Instagram post
Marc Cucurella has addressed the Chelsea fans after his double mistake during their 4-3 win against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday (8 December).
The 26-year-old slipped twice against Chelsea’s London rivals in the first 11 minutes of the match, with both moments being punished by goals from Ange Postecoglou’s side.
The Spain international was bailed out by his teammates as the Blues came from two nil down to win 4-3 after a brace from Cole Palmer and goals from Jadon Sancho and Enzo Fernandez.
Cucurella swapped boots after the second incident, and Chelsea fans don’t need to worry about seeing him in the original pair again because they ended up in the bin.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, the left-back shared a picture of his original pair of boots inside the bin with the caption, “Sorry Blues.”
In an interview with BBC Sancho confirmed the fate of the boots by saying, “I think after this game for sure they’re going in the bin, but after the mistakes, I thought he played fantastic.”
Chelsea established themselves as part of the title race
Chelsea’s ninth victory of the season allowed Enzo Maresca’s side to establish themselves as a genuine threat to Liverpool in the Premier League title race this season.
The Blues went two points clear of Arsenal in second place and now sit just four points behind the Reds in the table after the first 15 games.
Cucurella has been a crucial part in Chelsea reaching that stage after Maresca named him as his first-choice left back for this season, opting to completely drop Ben Chilwell from his squad.

The Spaniard has played in all but one of Chelsea’s Premier League fixtures, and picked up his first assist of the season against Spurs at the weekend.
The Blues will now face Astana on Thursday (12 December) in the Europa Conference League before hosting Brentford in the Premier League on Sunday (15 December).
