Marcus Rashford may have his hopes of a move from Man United to Barcelona dashed by two other players in the January transfer window, according to a report from ESPN.

The attacker has been exiled from the Red Devils side in recent weeks, and Football Insider understands Barcelona have shown an interest in the England international.

There have also been suggestions that Rashford favours a move to the Spanish giants despite interest from elsewhere (The Athletic).

As per this latest update, Barcelona have held talks face to face with the player's representatives about a potential move for him from Man United to the La Liga side this month.

However, while the Red Devils are open to loan offers for the 27-year-old, they have demanded any club who signs him temporarily pays at least a portion of his wages.

That is a problem for Barca in their pursuit of Rashford given their own financial issues, and it is suggested the club would have to secure exits for Eric Garcia and Ansu Fati to open the door for the England forward.

Football Insider Verdict

This suggestion that Barcelona will have to move on two players before they can sign him is not going to be what Rashford wants to hear.

Having been out of the picture for so long at Man United now, it appears clear that a change of scenery this month will be the best thing for the player, given his off-field frustrations as well.

Given they appear to be his preferred destination, talks between his representatives and Barcelona may have got his hopes up.

It now though appears that there is plenty to be dealt with in a short space of time before this move could potentially happen.

Considering Garcia impressed and scored against Benfica in the Champions League on Tuesday (21 January), Barca may also be hesitant to move him on to make room for the Man United man.

As a result it appears far from certain that Rashford will get the move to Barcelona he seemingly wants before the transfer window closes.
